The proposal for a new Eco Centre was envisioned to be the focal point of a revived tourism and recreational area for this emerging municipality. The Centre’s primary objective was to provide community and sport facilities for locals and visitors alike. The facility was conceived to meet LEED Certified status and was to be equipped with multiple emerging sustainable technologies. Comprised of event, meeting, community and recreational program elements, the ECO Centre was to cater to multiple interests and various user groups both regionally and across the country. The interior spaces were to be supported and strengthened by a landscape design program which involved passive and active zones where users could experience a variety of exterior “eco spaces”. These spaces were to be developed in order to exhibit the natural beauty of the region through diversified zones, walking paths and shoreline features.
