Following over a century of military history in the Windsor area, a combined facility for tactical, work and administration services, for local defence and police forces, was conceived. This was made possible through an unprecedented partnership between the Department of National Defence and the Windsor Police Services. The facility boasts four armoury regiments including the Essex & Kent, the Service Batallion, the Windsor Regiment and the Cadet Program. Other important functions include: a 10 position 25m indoor firing range; a 20 position 100m outdoor range; a five storey multi-faced rappelling tower; barracks; a closed quarter training area; a canine training unit; a drill hall; and lecture / theatre rooms.
The end-result of this project was a huge success. At the time of its completion, the facility was slated as one of the most sophisticated and technologically advanced training facilities in North America. The project was recognized by the Real Property Institute of Canada and was awarded a “Special Accomplishment – Group” honour award. Although complex in scope and coordination, the project was completed on schedule and on budget.
