Situated on a pastoral section of land, this high school’s focal point is a large interior student atrium. The curved space of the atrium was designed to evoke an experience of comfort, a conceptual analogy to the nurturing way of the Mother Mary.
This project boasts a capacity of 1,600 students within approximately 190,000 square feet of high-tech teaching facilities. The 20 acre site includes a 400 meter all weather track, football field, soccer pitch, tennis courts and associated paved roads and parking lots. One special feature is the multitude of green roofs throughout the design. These roofs provide additional insulation value, reduce heat island effect and add a distinctive “organic” feature in keeping with the rural landscape of the site. The building includes over 30 regular teaching classrooms, science laboratories, computer rooms, a technical wing, a cafeteria / auditorium complete with 450 telescoping theater seats. A triple gymnasium compliments the athletic program and is equipped with divider curtains that tuck neatly into the roof structure space and multiple games courts.
