The school turns to the symbolism of St. Joseph’s life to bring form and shape to the school’s architecture. For example, the aluminum-wrapped chapel, the entrance cross and the wing-shaped roof of the atrium are all metaphors to aspects of Joseph’s life – a liturgical vestment, the staff and the image of flight (doves) respectively.
This school was designed for 1200 students. The building includes classrooms, science laboratories, computer rooms, a technical wing, cafeteria with stage and an athletic department second to none. This department includes an 80’ x 140’ triple gymnasium complete with dressing rooms, a 2,700 sf exercise room and team dressing rooms with sport therapy and referee rooms. The site integrates a 400 metre all weather track, football field, soccer pitch and tennis courts for student use. Students with special needs are accommodated within the Community Living area, which includes a snoozelen room, quiet room, mechanical lifts and other specialized equipment and furnishings.
