The proposed Wellness and Athletic Facility aims to showcase the invigorated spirit of St. Clair College and its commitment to the health and well-being of the students, faculty and the surrounding community. The complex will incorporate the latest in design and fitness technology. It will serve as a critical beacon for the enhancement of student life and a source of great school pride.
The general layout of the facility is divided into three main volumes – the lobby, the gym and the remaining rectangular block comprised of classroom space, fitness space and change facilities. One of the most important aspects of this design was the idea of providing users with views to the exterior and to allow for a future gym expansion. Another important aspect was to ensure that interior spaces were connected by windows to the exterior and that the scale of the architecture matched the adjacent exterior program. Also, enough property has been provided for the gym to expand to a double or triple size space in the future.
