Following our proven services performed at the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel Plaza, J.P. Thomson Architects completed full architectural services for the customs facility and immigration offices at the busiest crossing in North America – the Ambassador Bridge.
Similar to the Tunnel project, this project involved the design and construction of new facilities and a redevelopment of the existing plaza complex. The program consisted of primary and secondary inspection stations, immigration offices, administration offices, toll booths, Duty Free, storage facilities, detention quarters as well as vehicular circulation design.
The project was designed and closely co-ordinated with Customs and Immigration personnel and Bridge Maintenance to keep the Bridge in operation 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Construction was phased and co-ordinated to maintain Bridge operation throughout the various moves that were required until the permanent facilities were operational.
