J.P. Thomson Architects along with Athletica Sports and Recreation Design of Vancouver, BC collaborated on this world class athletic facility. The site included an IAAF sanctioned track, shot put, javelin, high jump, long / triple jump, pole vault and a football field.
A full grand stand was also included with ample room for future expansion. The grand stand was also designed to accommodate the addition of future dressing rooms underneath. With the extensive site work on the project, a large amount of earth was excavated. The solution to the dilemma of excess soil was the creation of a large berm to block views and noise from adjacent roads. It was also a perfect natural form, which provided further seating and gathering spaces. In the summer of 2005, the track came to international attention – as it hosted the Pan-Am Junior Games – and was met with great praise and acclaim.
